Well... when you have a bunch of taxpayers who don't want to pay taxes of any kind, and they elect officials who tell them that they can still have services like the IRS to help answer their questions, without having to pay for it, or alternatively - NOT have those services without civilization falling apart - and they vote those people into office for telling them what they want to hear, this is the result. Do people sit around doing nothing all day collecting a paycheck? Far from it. Instead, people's hours are cut down to almost nothing and in many cases they are laid off, and when they are working the phones they are often stressed out, trying to get everything done in the little bit of time they're given. Training is extremely inadequate, because the Service who you imagine has so much money doesn't want to pay for it because their image has been bashed in the media over and over again for spending anything at all. Yes, the service at the IRS is awful. I dread having to call the phone line I used to work on. Just the same, it's a good idea to ask yourself why that is. If they have so much money, why is it a recorded line, and why do you have to make an appointment several days in advance just to do something simple? Stop and think about it for a minute, and you'll realize I'm right.
Worthless, worthless worthless. The reasons why they are so worthless are far more outrageous than the reasons behind the Boston Tea Party!

Having worked for the IRS and other government agencies, I am here to tell you that people's impression of the IRS is wrong. Oh, the service is terrible, this is true, but those who are complaining about it are most likely the ones at fault. How can this be, you may ask?
