Spent $3500 on a mixer for my distillery's production still and it completely failed within 14 months (just outside the warranty). Upon speaking to a few companies which build mixers for some of the world's most well known still brands I was told twice "I can't believe they sold you this for your application".
I strongly advise anyone considering using MXD to look at other suppliers as their cheap construction not only will cost you money, but it presents a serious fire/explosion hazard to your business and employees.
The seal inside the unit which prevents ethanol vapor is a simple lip seal, and everyone else in the professional distillery mixer industry uses a packed teflon seal. The consensus is that this cheap lip seal allowed ethanol vapors to pass by (which could cause an explosion) and into the bearing housing and gearbox housing, the ethanol then dissolved the grease in the bearings which led to complete failure of the seal, bearing and gearbox built by Mixers Direct.
The gearbox made noise ever since day 1, and they claimed that it was probably normal and that it should subside after break-in. The others I spoke to since said that a gearbox should NEVER make noise.
